Things to know about Discoverers 2 2019
  • The First few weeks: We have a strong emphasis on Relationship Building in our pod - using our School Values and beliefs to set children up for success.
We are establishing a positive behaviour management programme using the school values, our restorative practices and our SMART expectations. If you/or your child have concerns please make sure you contact us as soon as possible -
  • Our Collaborative Pod of 3
  • Planning and organisation is done across the pod
  • We start the day with our community time together
  • Classes/students/teachers will be moving around the 3 learning spaces according to learning
    needs and tasks
  • The advantage of having a separate classroom is that students can have the opportunity to
be in a smaller learning environment
  • Classroom Focus in the morning is on the Key Curriculum areas (Reading, Writing, Maths), in the afternoons the focus will be Inquiry, PE, Art
  • SMART LEARNER Profiles: Across the school we are focussing on what is means to be a SMART Learner. As part of our classroom programmes we will be developing the skills of - Being a Switched on Learner, Thinking for myself and Learning together.
  • Garden to Table: This is a unique programme for Year 3 and 4 students that builds skills for life through highly practical, hands-on classes - teaching growing and cooking skills, as well as helping to build awareness of responsibility for the environment, healthy eating and community connectedness.
Each class will have 3 G-T-T sessions per term. In order for this to run successfully we do require parent/grandparent help. Even if you can only help 1-2x per term that would be great. This programme runs on a Tuesday.
  • Home Learning: The expectation is that students will engage in 20 minutes reading at home per day - to develop fluency/new vocabulary/reading progress - depending on the level or needs of a student, school reading material may/or may not be sent home. A home learning grid with a variety of learning tasks will be sent home each term This covers the whole term and is voluntary. Completion of at least 8 of these tasks will be recognised by a certificate at the end of the term.
  • On Fridays our programme is different - Deb Burns is in Room 3 for Jenny Wood, Lana Sweeney is in Room 5 for Jenny Oldridge and Susie Keenan is in Room 4 in the mornings for Chris Sumer.
  • Communication: We are trying to communication digitally as much as possible., Please check our Blog and your emails for messages and notices. We welcome parents into our rooms before and after school. Children are usually very keen to share the fabulous artwork we do on Fridays.
